The Elemental series showcases hand-mixed glazes that have been layered for texture, movement and color. Whether EARTH, OCEAN, NIGHT or SKY, each piece is fired more than once. Some are decorated first with underglazes, and others feature splashes of contrasting glaze that pull, spread and separate during the firing. The kiln creates its own magic, and the result is always a surprise: a one-of-a kind painting on each piece that can be echoed, but never copied.
Ming’s Monsters are individually made and shaped. In this series, Ming works mostly on the wheel, with porcelain clay, then hand alters each piece. Slight distortions in shape, finger trails, and the melting of the glazes, give each piece a “wabi-sabi” effect of beauty through imperfection, humanity, and natural processes. The result is a dynamic surface with the unpredictability and beauty of a wood-fired piece at a more affordable price.
